Cookes team limbers up for the Great Midlands Fun Run

With just a few days to go until the Great Midlands Fun Run, the team at Cookes Furniture is warming up for the big day by sharing some fun facts about the event on Sunday 31 May.

Our Midlands-based store has sponsored the popular 8.5 mile fun run since it began in 2003, helping to raise a grand total of £2.2 million over the years.

Our marketing director Vanessa Hoe said: “The fun run always proves to be an enjoyable day out with family and friends, which is why we’ve been proud to sponsor it year on year. Our longstanding involvement with the event means that we’ve seen 75,000 pairs of feet and 1,000 paws complete the course since 2003.

“At 8.5 miles long, it would take an impressive line-up of 82,077 sofas from Cookes to stretch the total distance covered by the last 12 fun runs.

“It’s definitely thirsty work too! Entrants of this year’s run are expected to drink 18,000 litres of water on the course, this is enough to fill the tank of a Land Rover Discovery approximately 219 times.”

We will also be leading our own team of 76 runners across the finish line on the day. The team are donning their running shoes to raise funds for six local charitable organisations and voluntary groups. These include cancer charities Breast Friends, Cancer Support Centre (Sutton Coldfield) and the Teenage Cancer Trust, as well as the League of Friends of John Taylor Hospice, The Norman Laud Association and adult learning centre, Sutton Support Services.

Vanessa added: “In true Cookes style, we’ll be getting into the day’s festivities by bringing our own funny props along and running with a selection of blow up furniture. The team’s children, 10 buggies and even a dog will also be in tow, so it’d be great to see as many people as possible lining the streets of Sutton Coldfield to cheer us all on.”
