Cookes crosses the Fun Run finish line!
Everybody here at Cookes is celebrating the success of the 13th annual Great Midlands Fun Run after our team of 76 runners put their best foot forward and crossed the finish line on Sunday.
Our Midlands-based store, which has sponsored the popular 8.5 mile fun run since it began in 2003, has helped to raise more than £2.2 million over the years.
We’ve been raising vital funds since February, through sponsorship and in-store donations, for six charitable organisations and voluntary groups selected by the store. These include cancer charities Breast Friends, Cancer Support Centre (Sutton Coldfield) and the Teenage Cancer Trust, as well as the League of Friends of John Taylor Hospice, The Norman Laud Association and adult learning centre, Sutton Support Services.
The team, which included 22 children, 10 buggies and a dog in tow, joined 7,000 other runners to take in the sights of Sutton Coldfield at the annual event.
Our marketing director at Cookes, Vanessa Hoe, said: “It was a fantastic day as always. We had an amazing turn-out from our staff and the atmosphere was electric, there was a real community spirit. We will find out in November what our final fundraising figure will be, so fingers crossed we beat our target. We are so pleased the event was such a success and want to thank everyone who took part as well as those who came to cheer us on.”
Now in its 13th year, the Great Midlands Fun Run raised a grand total of £354,022 for charities across Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield last year. This year’s final fundraising total will be announced at a glittering ceremony in November.
