Cookes Raise More than £6,000 for Local Cancer Centre
Sutton Coldfield residents attended an exclusive afternoon tea event at Cookes Furniture to raise more than £1,100 for a local charity.
In addition to the £5,000 that has already been raised for the Cancer Support Centre in Sutton Coldfield since supporting the charity, the Midlands store invited the local community to join them at Edward’s Restaurant on Thursday 23rd March for an afternoon tea event in aid of the much-loved charity.
The family run business has supported the cancer support charity for a number of years hosting gala dinners, afternoon teas and other fundraising events. To show their appreciation the Cancer Support Centre appointed James Pike, Managing Director of Cookes as their patron last year.
For a donation customers enjoyed unlimited fizz, finger sandwiches, coffee and cake with all proceeds going to the charity. Cookes also hosted a raffle for their afternoon tea guests filled with great prizes.
The Cancer Support Centre, based on Lindridge Road, works alongside local health services, hospices and other cancer charities to provide people affected by cancer and their carers with access to support, information and complementary therapies at every stage of their cancer journey. The centre has been operating since 1999 when it began as a fortnightly evening Relaxation and Support Group and has since grown to offer its services five days a week.
Vanessa Hoe, marketing director at Cookes Furniture, said: “We’d like to thank everyone that came along to our first afternoon tea of the year. We are absolutely thrilled to have raised another £1,100 for the Sutton Coldfield Cancer Support Centre.
‘’As a family run business, we have always been extremely passionate about supporting local charities and have worked closely with Cancer Support Centre for a number of years. As the newly appointed patron of the Cancer Support Centre we are so proud of our Managing Director James Pike, and will continue to support his mission to raise funds for the much-loved charity.’’
